Full resell rights give you the authority to not only resell the ebook to anyone, but you'll be able to edit the content and insert your name as the author of the ebook!
You can see how critical it is to have full resell rights.
The "Main" ebook of the group was given to me in PDF and in a Microsoft Word document, which can be edited. And edit I did!
First, I added MY name as the ebook's author, well, my "Pen Name" that is.
Next, I read through the entire ebook and began adding and removing text. Are you wondering why I'd do that? Well, I wanted to include some of my own knowledge and experiences in the ebook.
After all, the ebook was written about affiliate marketing and at that point I had plenty of personal stories to add.
And I just wanted the ebook to feel more like my own - Like when you start painting walls when you move into a new apartment or home. You just want to add a little bit of your own style to it.
Now all I had to do was sell the thing. And that's where it got interesting...
You might think I'm crazy for doing this, but I went ahead and wrote a whole new "sales letter" for the home page of the website. I know I said that I didn't want to write the entire ebook, but I did want to take a shot at the home page.
Besides, I was reading a book called "Web Copy That Sells" which teaches anyone how to write, well... Sales copy. You know, the kind of text that moves people to take action - which is absolutely critical for websites!
With my new found confidence, I began writing. After several drafts I finally settled on the "perfect" sales letter...
What a mess.
The problem is that this was my first real test at writing a sales letter. And it was complete crap. The bad news for me is that I didn't know it was crap! Shoot, I thought it was fantastic at the time! The fact is, I didn't know good from bad.
(You see, I've written so many more website pages and sales letters since then, that my skill has increased tremendously! I'm a much more effective writer now.)
There I was with my new (to me) ebook ready to be purchased a thousand times and a piece of junk I called a "sales letter." Ready to set the internet on fire!
Now, I needed a website. Well, website hosting service anyway. I already had the website files, and the ebooks in PDF format, but I needed to get my own hosting.
I decided to try 1and1's super cheap $4/month plan and signed up because it's the cheapest I could find. However, cheapest isn't always the best as I found out the hard way.
I'm only adding this link to Site Build It! because I know you want to really build a successful, profitable business online.
After uploading the website and all the ebook PDFs I opened a publisher account at ClickBank. ClickBank is a publisher's best friend, they do everything from accepting credit cards to building and tracking your affiliate commissions.
Everything was in place!
As I'm sure you've guessed, the sales of my ebook didn't go exactly as planned. In fact, I didn't sell anything for a long time.
MONTHS.
I was running ads on Google Adwords to drive traffic to the site and I had set up my affiliate program with ClickBank. But no orders. Nothing. It was like in the movies when there's a couple seconds of silence and someone says, "It's too quiet."
I even tried writing a couple articles and submitting them to several websites with links to my ebook website... Nothing.
"What needs to be improved?" I thought.
"What can I change quickly that can help me get a couple of sales?"
Ah-ha! The "sales letter!"
I read "Web Copy That Sells" cover to cover all over again and started writing. Dozens of crumpled balls of notebook paper formed a mound under my desk until I had written something decent. What I finished with was O.K., but not great by any means.
However, it was an obvious improvement.
With the home page's "sales letter" updated, I began playing the waiting game again. But this time I finally got some action. Not a lot, but I finally got my first ebook sale!
Fast forward to today...
I've edited the home page of the ebook website several times. Each time making small adjustments, but also making it better. By "better" I mean more effective. In fact, I'm still selling the ebooks today with very little maintenance.
I just check the sales every month or so. It's a really great "hands off" business. Yes, it took a while to get started and yes, I had a $400 investment up front. You'll be glad to know that it's paid off big time! Let's just say I'm still extremely happy I paid ONLY $400 for that website... It really was an excellent investment!
Now what about you?
How will you use my mistakes in order to begin your own affiliate ebook or home based business?
Thanks for reading,
